Sky Germany and Sport Bild concurrently report that Ole Werner’s appointment as RB Leipzig’s next head coach may fall through. Werner’s former Bundesliga club Werder Bremen continues to demand a transfer fee for both Werner and his preferred assistant coaches.
At present, it appears as if Bremen sporting boss Clemens Fritz has backed down from his initial demands of a €9m transfer fee. The Hanseaten now seek €6m in compensation. Both German sources claim Leipzig are considering alternatives, but no specific names are mentioned.
Interestingly enough, Sport Bild notes that there could still be a breakthrough in negotiations on Sunday. Fritz will be playing in a charity match alongside former Leipzig head coach Marco Rose. The tabloid reports that Fritz will meet RB managing director Marcel Schäfer afterwards.
Leipzig have made an interesting choice with respect to their academy leadership. Nine days after sacking former Schalke 04 and FC Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum, the Saxons have brought in the man Baum once replaced on the Schalke sidelines to serve as the director of youth development.
Former Huddersfield and Norwich City head coach David Wagner will be returning to German football as he takes Baum’s place.
