Six home games, Six wins! And, six unanswered goals against Champions League participants Eintracht Frankfurt! However, RB Leipzig’s coach Ole Werner prefers to focus on the defensive performance of his team as they kept a clean sheet.
“Frankfurt came into the game well in the first quarter of an hour,” said the former Werder Bremen coach. “We didn’t always play our switching moments cleanly. Sometimes it’s little things because right before we scored the second goal, they hit the bar.
“We came out sharp again right from the first minute in the second half, and sealed the win with the third goal. Overall, it was a very good defensive performance. We won a lot of balls high on the pitch, and were aggressive in counter-pressing. The longer the game went on, the better our structure became in possession.”
Werner also emphasized the need not to get carried away by the heavy scoreline. “We have to keep working. And, it won’t get any easier. Opponents are adjusting to us, and we also need to evolve.”
RB Leipzig will end the year with games against Union Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen. Both teams lost their respective games earlier today on matchday 14.
