Milan have this evening announced the signing of Malick Thiaw from Schalke for a reported €5m, which can rise to a fee over €10m. The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract until 2027.
“It was a difficult decision for us to let Malick go,” said S04 sporting director Rouven Schröder. “He is a homegrown talent from the Knappenschmiede, has developed well in recent years and would have been an asset to our squad. We always have to consider the economic aspects in all decisions.”
Since making his Schalke debut in 2020, Thiaw has played 61 games across all competitions for the Gelsenkirchen club, scoring three goals. The central-defender was also a regular in Germany’s youth teams.
Following Thiaw’s departure, Schröder has confirmed that they plan to be active in the transfer market again as they search for a replacement. The newly-promoted Bundesliga club are working on a deal to sign Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg (20) on loan.
