Héctor Bellerín is the third player to leave FC Barcelona this season, following the retirement of Gerard Piqué and the transfer of Memphis Depay to Atlético Madrid.
The Catalan full-back, who was not part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans and whose contract expires on 30 June 2023, reached an agreement to leave the Blaugrana and join Sporting CP.
Bellerín has signed with the Portuguese club until the end of the season and has the option of an additional two seasons.
In a statement, Barcelona said: “FC Barcelona and Sporting Clube de Portugal have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Héctor Bellerín.
“FC Barcelona would like to express publicly their gratitude to Bellerín for his commitment and his dedication and wish him all the best for the future.”
Bellerín made his first team debut in September in the 4-0 win away at Cádiz. The defender went on to make two more appearances in La Liga, two in the Copa del Rey and two in the Champions League.
