The pairing of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez had been on fire when Inter had won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte two seasons. But under Simone Inzaghi this season, things seem quite the opposite and the duo has barely fired.
Due to injuries and poor form, Lukaku has scored only three goals in the whole Serie A campaign. He has played 810 minutes in total, scoring once every 162 minutes.
Meanwhile, Martinez has scored 14 goals in the league campaign at the rate of one goal every 146 minutes but it is clear that the pair isn’t playing well together going by the fact that they have not scored even once when playing with each other. They have scored once in the same game but it was after one had gone off.
It is now not certain that Inter pursue the permanent signature of Lukaku in the summer and it seems as if their journeys together are destined to end. Lukaku is expected to hold talks with Chelsea to speak about potential discounts on loan deals or potential exit strategies.
