Leeds pulled off an impressive 1-0 victory over Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime, and it’s a game they thoroughly deserved to win.
Daniel Farke’s side came out of the blocks firing in the second half, making things incredibly difficult for Spurs.
They managed to find a winner from Noah Okafor, who came off the bench to fire past the goalkeeper.
Leeds could easily have taken the lead before that, but they were forced to remain patient as Farke’s substitutes paid dividends.
One player who has received plenty of credit during the game is Tarik Muharemovic, alongside goalkeeper James Trafford.
The defensive duo played a crucial role in Leeds keeping a clean sheet against Spurs, but they weren’t the only two players to impress.
Farke’s substitutions helped play a crucial role, with Harry Wilson involved in the winner, while Melvin Bard impressed coming off the bench at half-time.
The win ended a disappointing run for Leeds and put them up to eighth in the Premier League, before the fixtures on Sunday, at least.
It was a relatively strong summer transfer window for the Yorkshire club, even though some of their new additions have struggled to hit the ground running.
Welsh international Wilson has been a particular disappointment, but the majority of their summer signings have been hits so far.
One player who hasn’t been spoken about too much is centre-back Nico Elvedi. That’s perhaps due to the performance of Muharemovic alongside him, but he was equally as good at the heart of the defence.
Elvedi made 14 defensive contributions to help Leeds preserve their clean sheet, the joint most alongside Muharemovic.
The defensive duo were absolutely phenomenal for Leeds, but Elvedi deserves more credit than he’s been receiving.
He also completed 96% of his passes while winning 100% of his aerial duels.
Trafford and Muharemovic are deservedly receiving a lot of credit for their performance, not only against Tottenham but for the whole season. That doesn’t mean Elvedi shouldn’t be receiving just as much praise for his involvement in the win against Spurs.
Leeds’s recruitment deserves credit
Although we’ve been crediting the individual players here, Leeds’ recruitment team deserve plenty of praise for the signings they’ve made in recent years.
Not every addition is going to be a hit, but Leeds certainly appear to have more hits than misses in their recruitment.
Recruitment is incredibly important in the modern era, especially for clubs like Leeds who have come up from the Championship looking to remain in the Premier League.
Their new signings over the last couple of seasons are a key reason why they gained promotion to the top division and instantly become a side capable of competing higher up the table.
The threat of being relegated has almost disappeared for the Yorkshire club, and a key reason for that is their recruitment decisions since they gained promotion.
