Newcastle submit €70m+ bid for Chelsea & Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike

Newcastle United have submitted a bid worth more than €70 million for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with the Magpies pushing to get the deal done (h/t Fabrizio Romano).

The Magpies have been looking for a versatile attacker to add to the ranks, and their radar has turned to Ekitike. Negotiations are reportedly underway.

Ekitike can lead the line as a number nine or play off one like Alexander Isak.

The elusive Frenchman is also capable of playing on the left flank. He is a versatile attacking solution for the Magpies.

Newcastle wanted a profile like that and were after Joao Pedro, but he chose to move to Chelsea following his Brighton & Hove Albion exit.

Ekitike has bounced back from a horrid spell with Les Parisiens and thrived in Germany, bagging 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances for Frankfurt this season.

Newcastle could use the additional firepower after Callum Wilson exited the club this summer upon the expiry of his contract, and Ekitike is a stellar candidate to fill the void.

The Magpies have been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins, but made a concrete move for the Frankfurt striker.

Whether they can get a deal for the former Paris Saint-Germain forward over the line remains to be seen.

Frankfurt are notoriously difficult to negotiate with, making life difficult for sides that come for their players.

Die Adler made PSG go through the gauntlet to sign Randal Kolo Muani for around €90 million, and bled Manchester City for Omar Marmoush, letting the Egyptian leave for €75 million.

Frankfurt were reportedly demanding €100 million for Ekitike, but will likely have to settle for less. Very few sides can cough up that sum for the striker.

Chelsea and Liverpool showed interest in securing his services, but Newcastle could pip them to his signature.
