Nantes are considering the signing of Marseille left-back Ulisses Garcia (29) as part of a “joker” transfer, according to a report from Ouest-France. In France, clubs are allowed one “joker” transfer outside of the transfer windows. It means they can sign only one player from another French club. Nantes are reportedly keen to bolster Luis Castro’s options for the left-back position, given the Portuguese head coach can only rely on Wolfsburg loanee Nicolas Cozza.
Fabien Centonze remains part of Nantes’ squad, but the former Metz left-back is sidelined for a shoulder injury. Garcia only joined Les Phocéens eighteen months ago, but the Switzerland international’s future in Marseille appears in limbo. Garcia is currently the third choice left-back at Marseille, which signed Emerson from West Ham and opted not to register Garcia for the Champions League league phase.
Ouest-France reports that Nantes may not have the necessary finances to sign Garcia. Furthermore, the Swiss intends to fight for his place in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.
