Youssoufa Moussoufa has revealed that he and Germany U21 teammate Jessic Ngankam were subjected to racist abuse on social media following their missed penalties in Germany’s 1-1 draw with Israel in their opening match.

“I would really like to stay in Dortmund”

Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko has spoken out against racism following Germany’s 1-1 draw with Israel in their U21 European Championship opener.

He and Hertha BSC’s Jessic Ngankam each missed a penalty in the game and were subjected to racist abuse on social media as a result.

“When we win, we are all Germans. If we lose, these monkey comments come. Jessic got them, I got them. It’s just not part of football,” Moukoko said in a post-match interview.

“We’re trying to help the team. When you get messages like that, it’s disgusting,” added Moukoko, who was born in Cameroon.

“This time it hurt. No player misses a penalty on purpose.”

He pointed out that it’s far from the first time this has happened to him.

“I’m starting to have had enough. It’s time to make a statement against it.”
