Marseille summer target Thiago Almada ‘favours Premier League or La Liga’

Speaking exclusively to ESPN Argentina, Thiago Almada (22), who was linked to Marseille in the summer, has revealed that he is ready for a move to Europe: “I want to go to Europe now! Yes, now in this upcoming transfer window. I would like any top league, if I have to choose it’s the Premier League or La Liga, but I would like any top league.“.

The Argentinian joined the MLS and Atlanta United, quickly becoming one of the best players in the league, bagging 18 goals and 23 assists within two seasons, but more importantly becoming an offensive leader for his team. Almada also featured in the Argentina squad which won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making a late appearance in his nation’s 0-2 win over Poland during the group stage.

Almada decides now is the right time for a move to Europe

The 22-year-old was already Europe-bound back in the Summer, as several clubs reportedly positioned themselves to sign him, but he decided against a move, opting to finish off his season with Atlanta and continue his progression now. However, as the MLS season comes to a close, Almada now believes it is the right time to make a move overseas.

The team which does sign him will have to put money on the table, as the midfielder is already valued at €27 million by Transfermarkt. A fee which would nearly equal the club’s record spending of €32 million, which they used to sign Vitinha (22) in the summer.

Although his preference leans towards the English and Spanish top flights, no doubt that Almada could be tempted by an experience with Les Phocéens, if the project is coherent for him. Napoli and Ajax are amongst other clubs reportedly interested by the player.
