Speaking to Canal+ in the wake of Paris Saint-Germain’s return to winning ways against Nice on Saturday night, captain Marquinhos reflected on his 400th appearance for the club, which saw him keep a clean sheet.
The Brazilian, his remarks reported by RMC, notably pointed out that the frank discussions between the squad over the past week, after the defeat to Lyon, made a difference – with president Nasser Al Khelaifi even coming to Friday’s training session to give a speech to the squad:
“We wanted to show another side to ourselves, some solidarity. We spoke a lot this week, and it worked. We weren’t at our best, but we needed this result, whether we played well or not. It’s important to play as a team.”
Tonight’s win means the league leaders restored their six-point lead at the top, with second-place Lens having won on Friday. The visitors will have Gianluigi Donnarumma to thank for a string of saves, while Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos found the net. Christophe Galtier’s men take on the Sang et Or at home next weekend, in a game that will give them the change to put any semblance of a title race to bed – or see it go down to the wire.
