Lilian Thuram’s video waving his two sons off to France’s international gathering at Clairefontaine was the subject of discussion during a press conference with Marcus and Khéphren Thuram. The following was transcribed by RMC Sport.
Khéphren, who plays for OGC Nice, said: “Any dad would have made a video. It was to mark the occasion.” He added that the video was a “great memory” and that he was “very happy” that his father made it.
Marcus, who plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach, echoed his brother’s sentiments, saying that the video was “important for the three of us” and that it was a source of “immense pride” for their father. He also suggested that his father made the video to create a lasting memory of the moment for the family.
Lilian Thuram, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, retired from football in 2008 after a glittering career that saw him win numerous domestic and international titles. Both his sons were called up to Didier Deschamps’ France squad this month to face the Netherlands and Ireland in Les Bleus first two EURO 2024 qualifying matches, the first match action since losing out to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final in December.
