Barcelona are expected to name Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as their new club captain in the coming days.
Ahead of the new La Liga campaign starting next weekend, a key change has been made in Catalonia, with skipper Sergi Roberto moving on after his contract expired.
That will trigger a reshuffle in the Barcelona squad, with Marca indicating Ter Stegen has accepted the challenge, and will take over the role full time for 2024/25.
Ter Stegen was vice captain for Barcelona last season, regularly wearing the armband with Roberto playing a squad role, as Barcelona finished second in La Liga.
It also means a fourth permanent club captain in five years, since the 2020/21 season, with Barcelona hoping the German star can utilise his experience in the months ahead as their undisputed No.1.
Ter Stegen is Barcelona’s longest serving current player, after joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, with five La Liga and five Copa del Rey titles, plus one UEFA Champions League crown.
