As reported by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich could be without Manuel Neuer for the upcoming top-of-the-table clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
It is understood that Der Rekordmeister have started preparations for Saturday’s vital fixture without club captain Neuer in mind.
The 37-year-old was sidelined during Tuesday’s training session with a minor knee problem and was unable to continue, casting considerable doubt regarding his availability for the weekend.
While Sven Ulreich was able to prove his quality at the beginning of the campaign in the absence of Neuer, it is far from ideal for Thomas Tuchel’s side for a plethora of reasons.
With Bayern’s injury list continuing to grow over recent weeks, losing Neuer would be a significant blow for the record champions, having been able to rely upon his services so far this season.
Not just a key performer for the side, Neuer is an experienced figure who would undoubtedly act as a calming presence on an unsettled side ravaged by injuries.
As well as this, he is able to instil confidence in his backline, something that Ulreich – regardless of his performances this season – would be unable to achieve.
However, there is some positive news for the Bayern faithful to take into Saturday evening.
Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano completed individual training programmes on Tuesday and should be able to at least make the bench as the Rekordmeister look to claim top spot in the Bundesliga and end Leverkusen’s unbeaten run in all competitions this season.
