Manchester United plot late move for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of a late move for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest, according to Sky Sports.

United are looking to provide competition for Diogo Dalot, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka seeking a move away from Old Trafford after being deemed surplus to requirements.

The 24-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2019, having impressed for Crystal Palace with a reputation as a domineering tackler, strong in ground duels and defensive 1v1 situations.

While he showed those same traits after joining United, he proved a more defensive-minded right-back with sub-par offensive outputs, which has seen him lose his place to Dalot.

Crystal Palace want to bring the Englishman back to Selhurst Park, while West Ham United have also registered an interest.

However, United will only allow Wan-Bissaka to leave if they can sign a replacement. They have now identified Dest as a target.

Erik ten Hag worked with the out-of-favour Barca man during his time as Ajax manager, and the 21-year-old could be the third ex-Ajax player to join the Red Devils this summer after Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

United only announced the deal to sign Antony hours ago but are looking for more deals with the transfer window just under two days away from closing for the summer as Ten Hag continues to build his squad.

Dest is a more attacking-minded right-back, and a player Ten Hag is very familiar with.

The young American emerged as an exciting prospect after graduating through the youth ranks at Ajax. His performances earned him a move to Barcelona, but his time in Spain has not gone as planned.

He only made the bench in Barca’s season opener against Rayo Vallecano but has failed to make Xavi’s squad for subsequent games.

Dest could now be reunited with Ten Hag at the Theatre of Dreams if United pursue a late move.
