Man Utd ‘really interested’ in signing 45-goal star at Old Trafford

Manchester United are ‘really interested’ in signing Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Bringing in a new source of goals appears to be high up on manager Erik ten Hag’s to-do list ahead of the new season, and the talented 19-year-old could be the player tasked with spearheading the revolution at Old Trafford.

What is the latest news involving Sesko?

The Manchester Evening News have revealed that United’s football director John Murtough met Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic to evaluate the possibility of a transfer for his client.

Previous reports had claimed that several clubs from across the continent, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, were also assessing the Slovenia international’s situation.

It’s believed that Salzburg value Sesko at around £55 million after he found the back of the net on 10 occasions last season (taking his career tally up to 45) while setting up a further seven strikes as he fired his side to a domestic double.

And Romano has also disclosed how Chelsea have also had a meeting with the teenager’s representatives, stepping up their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku’s successor.

The transfer guru then stated how United have in fact had more than one ‘direct meeting’, though, before revealing there is a third side in the running for Sesko’s signature.

What has Romano said about Sesko?

Romano has informed GiveMeSport that Sesko was on United’s wish list ‘even before the arrival’ of Ten Hag and that he’s ‘highly rated by the scouting team’.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Man United are really interested. They had this player on the list even before the arrival of Erik ten Hag.

“He’s always been a player highly rated by the scouting team. And so, now it’s a big opportunity, I think, for Man United; they need a striker.”

Where would Sesko fit in at Man Utd?

Sesko is a powerful 6 foot 4 striker who has almost exclusively played through the middle throughout his short senior career.

With Edinson Cavani departing this summer, Mason Greenwood still subject to an ongoing police investigation, and Cristiano Ronaldo making his desire to depart the club clear, signing a forward is likely to be a priority for Ten Hag.

If Sesko does land in the red half of Manchester over the coming weeks, then he will surely lead the line with two wingers lining up alongside him.

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga will compete for a starting berth out wide in what could become a fearsome frontline.
