Man Utd ‘Prioritising’ Surprise January Transfer After Amorim Decision

Manchester United could surprisingly be in the market for yet another goalkeeper in 2026, according to reports – with the Deadline Day signing of Royal Antwerp stopper Senne Lammens not enough for boss Ruben Amorim as he heads into the year anniversary of his Red Devils tenure over the coming weeks.

The report by The Sun states that United are prioritising a transfer for a starting goalkeeper, despite Lammens’ arrival – with Amorim admitting that he needs a new man between the sticks regardless of the Belgian joining the Old Trafford ranks.

The Portuguese gaffer stated last week that United don’t currently possess a No.1 goalkeeper, despite an £18.2million deal for Lammens getting over the line – not only plunging the Belgian’s future into doubt, but casting major worries over Altay Bayindir’s future at Old Trafford, who could be shipped out given the fact that he would be third choice stopper if someone else came into the mix.

Bayindir has only kept three clean sheets in his United career so far, coming against FC Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League last season, the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of last season’s Premier League, and a 7-0 win over Barnsley in the League Cup last season.

The Turkish goalkeeper has started all of their Premier League matches so far in the current campaign, but produced major errors for goals against Arsenal and Burnley. That didn’t force Lammens into the club, as he came into the fold after Andre Onana’s loan move to Trabzonspor, but another man may not be needed to compliment the young Belgian.

With Onana unlikely to find a future at United, the Sun claims that United have ‘recently dealt’ with the representatives of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who have summer arrival Bryan Mbeumo among their clientele. The Red Devils also failed with a loan enquiry for Aston Villa stalwart Emiliano Martinez, who has a contract for another four years at Villa Park.

Martinez wanted to join United and was left out of their squad to face Crystal Palace before deadline day, but a move didn’t materialise and now Lammens will be expected to compete with Bayindir until January at the earliest.

United plan to invest heavily in a central midfielder, with Brighton enforcer Carlos Baleba and Palace youngster Adam Wharton thought to have been in their sights over the summer months, but a goalkeeper could also be on their shortlist.
