Manchester United could be in the market for a new manager in the near future, with Michael Carrick under severe pressure.
The Red Devils did secure a 3-2 victory over Roma in the Champions League during the week, but it’s their Premier League form that will be a huge concern to the board.
United have won just once in the Premier League so far this season, and another defeat this weekend could spell the end for Carrick.
The Manchester club are already being linked with a number of different managers as they succession plan ahead of a potential change.
Up next for United is a home game against Aston Villa, interestingly against Unai Emery, who has reportedly been a target for the club.
Getting Emery out of Villa was always going to be a difficult task, considering he has a lot of power there and is doing a great job.
At the moment, his Villa side are competing in the Champions League, while he has a big say when it comes to recruitment.
United were unfortunately dealt a big blow in their efforts to potentially prise him away from Villa. Reports have suggested that he is now close to signing a new contract at the club, meaning United will have to pursue alternative targets if they are to make a change.
According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Emery is among the names that United have considered as a replacement, alongside Eddie Howe, Fabian Hurzeler, and Julian Nagelsmann.
Unfortunately for United, GIVEMESPORT understands that Hurzeler is not interested in joining United in the middle of the season, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try.
With Emery looking unlikely, United need to do everything they can to try to convince Hurzeler to make the move to Old Trafford.
The young manager is doing an absolutely phenomenal job with Brighton, who currently sit in third position after nine games in the Premier League.
Hurzeler has been described as “Europe’s hottest young manager”, and it’s no surprise, given what he’s doing at such a young age.
Hurzeler is the one
Hurzeler is clearly the next big manager who is going to go from strength to strength, given his age.
A report from Sky Sports says that Hurzeler remains prominent in United’s thinking, despite him distancing himself from a potential move.
United just need to do everything they possibly can to try to convince Hurzeler to come to Old Trafford. Whether that means backing him significantly in the transfer market, offering him high wages or a long-term contract, they simply need to get it done.
Although Hurzeler has distanced himself from the role, it’ll be interesting to see how he would react if he did actually get an offer.
Turning down United is something that not many managers do, and United need to be testing the waters for someone who is going to be one of the best managers in the world.
