Man Utd move for £113m forward ‘can’t be ruled out’ at Old Trafford – GiveMeSport

Manchester United signing Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix this month ‘shouldn’t be ruled out’, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT.

Erik ten Hag’s side have been searching for a striker since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo during the recent winter World Cup and the Daily Mail say the Red Devils are keen on Ronaldo’s Portuguese teammate.

What’s the latest news involving Joao Felix and Man United?

Having arrived from Benfica for a club-record £113 million transfer fee in the summer of 2019, Felix looks set to depart Atletico Madrid after an underwhelming three-and-a-half-year stint. Undoubtedly one of Europe’s top talents, a switch to the Premier League looks increasingly likely with a whole host of clubs already showing interest.

Jones recently told GMS that Atletico are looking to offload Felix, with a loan deal most likely for the 23-year-old. Felix, who pockets a reported £8 million per year, is one of Atletico’s highest earners with the club keen to recoup some of those funds. According to reports, the Spanish giants are requesting a staggering £13.25 million loan fee for Felix’s services with a total package worth around £20m.

Understandably, the price tag has left Premier League outfits feeling hesitant about making a move, with United one of the clubs who could be forced to look elsewhere. However, following last month’s departure of Ronaldo United are somewhat desperate for a replacement, with Felix still an option despite the hefty fee.

What has Jones said about Felix and United?

A transfer saga that looks set to roll on throughout the month, transfer insider Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Felix remains a player of interest to United.

“I think if they can make the terms of the deal align with what they’re looking for, we probably shouldn’t rule it out.”

What would Felix offer United in attack?

As demonstrated at the recent World Cup, Felix remains a talented player and at just 23 years old, he still has a bright future in the game. Registering three goal contributions in his four appearances at the tournament, the Benfica academy graduate will be keen to get his career back on track.

Capable of playing in a multitude of positions across the forward line, Felix has notched up a modest total of 34 goals in 130 appearances for Atletico. Interestingly enough, that’s just 14 goals more than his entire tally for Benfica, despite playing just under 100 games less.

Despite this, Felix remains a versatile option in attack, with the Viseu-born forward ranking in the top 15% of forwards for progressive passes, dribbles completed and passes completed per 90 minutes, according to Fbref. Unlocking his full potential will be the task of ten Hag, should Felix complete the rumoured switch to Old Trafford.
