Man Utd have ‘ticked one box’ in bid to sign Kylian Mbappe – GiveMeSport

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, and they could have “one box ticked” if they are able to meet his wage demands, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Frenchman signed a new contract in the summer, tying him to PSG until 2025, however there are now reports emerging that he is unsettled at Parc des Princes.

What is the latest news involving Mbappe?

The Mirror report that Erik ten Hag has accelerated his plans to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, after his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, and Mbappe has emerged as a shock target, with the club possessing the financial capabilities to pay a fee of at least £150m for him.

The potential transfer comes at a time when the 23-year-old is rumoured to be unhappy at PSG, with L’Equipe reporting that the club recently paid his wages late, in a move that angered the highly-rated young talent.

Adding to his discontent is a strained relationship with Brazilian forward Neymar, and the Mirror state that the club held a crisis meeting to settle their differences earlier this season, eventually agreeing not to discuss each other publicly.

What has Jones said about Mbappe?

Jones indicates that the Red Devils being able to pay the starlet £500k-per-week stands them in good stead in regards to a potential transfer, but has doubts about whether he would be willing to make the switch, telling GIVEMESPORT:

“If they can afford to pay him £500k-per-week then that’s great and it’s one box ticked, but do they meet his ambitions? I’m not so sure.”

Could Man United attract Mbappe?

Man United are one of the world’s biggest clubs, and they represent an attractive option for almost any player, however, as pointed out by Jones, it is unlikely that they meet the ambitions of the France international, when you consider how they have fared in recent times.

Unable to win a Premier League title since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, the rebuild of the club is a work in progress, rather than the finished article like neighbours Manchester City, currently sitting fifth in the league standings, aiming to achieve a Champions League berth.

Veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon told Canal+ that Mbappe could go on to be “one of the best in history” (via GOAL) after bursting onto the scene in 2018, and he has so far delivered on those lofty expectations, recording an incredible 65 goal contributions in 46 appearances last season.

With that in mind, the forward may set his sights on a transfer to a club that are more likely to compete for major honours in the immediate future, despite United improving recently under the helm of their new manager.
