Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba, according to Manchester Evening News.
The pair have been on United’s radar since last season, and the Red Devils could move for them this summer.
Both men are having impressive campaigns for Bayer Leverkusen as Die Wekself eye their first-ever Bundesliga title.
The Leverkusen pair caught the eye as they beat Bayern Munich this weekend to go five points clear at the top of the table.
Tapsoba is an athletic, ball-playing centre-back who could potentially replace one of Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Raphael Varane this summer.
Evans signed a short-term deal with the club and is expected to leave this summer, while Varane could follow him through the door after some below-par showings.
Lindelof’s contract runs out next summer, and United may decide to cash in on his little value.
Tapsoba can fit in across the backline and has emerged as a potential replacement. He has the pace to deal with quick attackers, keeping them honest. He has helped his side keep four clean sheets in 16 league appearances.
Tapsoba excels in progressive actions, recording 6.38 progressive passes per 90 (98th percentile) and 1.79 progressive carries per game (97th percentile).
The 25-year-old Burkina Faso international will make a fantastic addition to United’s backline if they can snap him up, although they will be wary of his weak aerial prowess.
Frimpong is another top performer for Leverkusen this season, with the Dutch international bagging six goals and six assists in the league.
The former Celtic and Manchester City starlet is a rapid and destructive force in attack. His runs in the final third are top-notch, evading defenders better than most attackers.
Defensively, he can still get caught out. But it is the price to pay for his incredible attacking ability that has made him a constant source of goals and assists for Leverkusen.
A cloud of confusion hangs over United right-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.
Dalot continues to polarise opinions among the fanbase, with many seeing his value and others believing they are due an upgrade.
Wan-Bissaka has battled with injuries this term amidst interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Frimpong is a strong contender to fill the void if either player departs.
