Olympique Lyonnais have successfully appealed the DNCG’s decision to relegate the club to Ligue 2 following financial mismanagement. This means that the club should feature in next season’s UEFA Europa League due to an agreement with UEFA.
On the 27th of June, Lyon released a press statement indicating that it had agreed terms with UEFA that if they were able to fight their appeal and remain in Ligue 1, they would be allowed to take part in the Europa League.
It’s a decision which deals a significant blow to Crystal Palace’s hopes of taking part in next season’s competition. The Premier League side’s involvement is under threat due to UEFA’s multi-club rules, which permit only one team owned by the same owners to be involved in the same competition (with the club that finishes higher in the league taking the spot: Lyon finished 6th, while Palace finished 12th).
