Luis Suarez spits on coach during Leagues Cup final defeat

Luis Suarez is one of several Barcelona players at Inter Miami, who had a dreadful Sunday as they lost the Leagues Cup final to Seattle Sounders. And the Uruguayan striker did not cover himself in glory with his actions at Lumen Field.

Suarez, who has been involves in multiple controversies throughout his career, was involved in an altercation with a member of Seattle’s coaching staff after the full time whistle was blown. And as picked up by Apple TV cameras, he spat on the coach.

The match between the two MLS clubs was very seated, and it ended with an on-field altercation involving both sets of players – former Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets was heavily involved in this. Suarez’s was a separate incident, but it turned out to be much more shocking.

Javier Mascherano reacts to full time incidents

Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano, who is another of the ex-Barcelona contingent in Florida, was asked about the full time scenes in Washington, including Suarez’s spitting incident. However, he admitted that he had not seen much.

“Nobody likes that at the end of the game there are these types of actions. When there is a reaction, there may be a provocation, but I don’t know what happened.”

The likelihood is that Suarez will now be investigated by CONCACAF over the incident, although it is believed that he was not cited at the time. The referee’s report may not say much, but given that TV cameras picked up on the 38-year-old spitting at the Seattle coach, there is bound to be action taken.

As for the match itself, it was an off day for Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and co, as they never not able the win the tournament the Inter Miami did two years ago when the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner first moved to the United States.
