Luis Enrique to make Napoli wait amidst Tottenham and PSG interest

Newly crowned Serie A Champions Napoli have already contacted Luis Enrique and the former Spain boss has asked for some time to make a decision about his future.

La Gazzetta dello Sport state that Aurelio de Laurentiis contacted Luis Enrique’s agent Ivan de La Pena earlier this week to potentially replace the outgoing Luciano Spalletti with the Spaniard. The answer was a rather dry one, as Enrique asked for some time to make a decision, as he seems to have his eyes on a Premier League job.

He does know English but the report says that he is trying to improve it in anticipation of a Premier League job. Tottenham are the main English candidate right now but they seem to be moving closer to Graham Potter. The idea of managing Manchester City is a very remote one but he has a great relationship with Txiki Beguiristain and if there’s shock Pep Guardiola exit, Enrique would be very keen on replacing him.

PSG’s interest also caught Enrique’s attention in recent days. Once De Laurentiis got to know of interest from other clubs, he avoided any intermediaries and contacted the Spaniard’s agent right away. Enrique has a fascination for Italy, having managed Roma for a season in the past but his financial demands are complex for Napoli. He would want €10 million per season and those figures are currently out of reach for Napoli. But there is a feeling that if Enrique truly believes in the Napoli project, he could demand less.
