At Friday’s press conference ahead of his first official away match as Paris Saint-Germain head coach, Luis Enrique was inevitable asked about Kylian Mbappé’s return to the first-team this past week.
In the midst of the France captain’s contract extension stand-off with the club, the 24-year-old ostensibly came to a temporary truce with the club as talks between the two parties resumed, leading to his return to the fray.
The Spaniard indicated that he was happy to have Mbappé back at his disposal, although he was evasive when asked about whether he had received any guarantees on the club’s part over whether the forward would still be around by the start of next month.
“He seems to be in top form and very motivated, with the right mindset. It’s great to have a world-class player like Kylian, not just in terms of his footballing ability but also his character. I’m very happy about it.”
With Mbappé back in the fold and new signing Ousmane Dembélé arriving, the Ligue 1 champions will be hoping to find more of a clinical edge against Les Violets, after a 0-0 draw against Lorient for their season’s curtain-raiser at home last weekend.
