Liverpool have ‘spoken’ to ‘phenomenal’ £166m star about Anfield move

Liverpool have spoken to Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe in the past, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 23-year-old is currently thought to be unhappy at the Parc des Princes, and O’Rourke is sure the Reds will be keeping an eye on his situation after showing interest in him earlier this year.

What is the latest news involving Mbappe?

Despite reports claiming that he is not enjoying his time with PSG right now, Mbappe has stated that he is more than content with life in Paris.

“I am very happy,” the Frenchman said (via BBC Sport) after his side’s 1-0 win against Marseille last weekend. “I have never asked to leave in January.”

The above has to be taken with a pinch of salt, however, with multiple outlets, including The Telegraph, alleging that Mbappe does want a move away from PSG after a breakdown in relationship with the Ligue 1 champions.

The French club look ready to put up a real fight to keep hold of their forward, though, as it is believed they will only sell him for £300m.

What has O’Rourke said about Mbappe and Liverpool?

Having held discussions with him before, if there is a chance of Mbappe leaving PSG, O’Rourke thinks Liverpool would be interested in signing the former AS Monaco man.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Liverpool are obviously going to be keeping tabs on the situation with Kylian Mbappe because of his current situation with PSG, with reports suggesting he wants to leave the club after broken promises.

“Mbappe has spoken to Liverpool in the past. He spoke to them just before he signed his new contract at PSG last summer.”

Do Liverpool need Mbappe?

Yes. It may be the only way for them to match rivals Manchester City after their purchase of Erling Haaland during the summer.

The France international, who PSG bought for around £166m, would obviously bring a lot of goals to Anfield.

Described as a “phenomenal” footballer by former Lyon manager Bruno Genesio, Mbappe has scored over 200 times in his senior career. Adding that sort of firepower to their squad could be a game-changer for Liverpool.

For now, though, it is probably something Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield faithful can only dream about. PSG are going to be reluctant to sell arguably their best player and are in a strong position after he signed a contract extension back in May.
