Liverpool are in a strong position to beat Chelsea to the signing of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, according to the Daily Mail.
The Cherries are now open to selling the England international in January, surprisingly reversing their decision to keep key players until next summer.
They are prepared to sell Scott if their Premier League status looks secure and suitors offer around £100 million.
Chelsea have been the most persistent admirers of the 23-year-old, submitting several bids.
Their highest offer (worth around £68m) was rejected during the summer window.
However, Liverpool’s interest is genuine, and they could have an advantage in the race.
The Reds are currently led by former Cherries boss Andoni Iraola, who has previously worked with the player.
Liverpool need to address their midfield issues over the coming months. Alexis Mac Allister has yet to agree a new contract.
Ryan Gravenberch’s form has dipped, and Curtis Jones left without the club signing a proper replacement.
Scott bolstered his reputation with his performances for England during the recent international break.
Liverpool must now consider whether the midfielder represents value for money at £100m, particularly with his Bournemouth contract set to expire in 2028.
He is also out with an injury and may not regain full fitness until the window officially opens. His fitness record will concern the Anfield hierarchy.
Chelsea were willing to invest heavily in Scott and may be willing to meet the asking price. Bournemouth will encourage a bidding war between the two clubs.
Liverpool are also monitoring Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, who has attracted Chelsea’s interest.
