Bayer Leverkusen are continuing their talks with Nico Paz’s entourage as they look to sign the Como midfielder this summer (h/t Florian Plettenberg).
Die Werkself have identified Paz as a top replacement for Florian Wirtz, who is on his way to Liverpool.
The German giants will receive more than £100 million from Wirtz’s sale. They are looking to reinvest the proceeds for new signings in the transfer window.
Leverkusen have a big task in their hands to fill the void of the German prodigy, who has been influential behind the club’s unprecedented success in recent years.
Paz’s stellar form at Como has caught the attention of Leverkusen, who believe the Argentine can be a great addition to the squad.
He has netted six goals and nine assists for Cesc Fabregas’ side in the recently concluded campaign.
His staggering rise as one of Europe’s leading attacking midfielders led to his senior debut with the Argentine team in October.
The 20-year-old has been backed to play a key role for Lionel Scaloni’s side in the World Cup next year.
Como are trying to prevent Paz’s departure as they consider him vital to their plans.
However, Real Madrid have a buy-back option worth €8m for their academy star. It is reported that Spanish giants want to trigger the clause and then sell him for a higher fee.
Paz is valued at around €35 million, which would be a reasonable price given his world-class potential.
Leverkusen are ushering in a new era under manager Erik ten Hag, who has succeeded Xabi Alonso.

They are planning to bring in more reinforcements following the departures of notable players like Jonathan Tah and Jeremie Frimpong.
