Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel grabbed a shocking, late equaliser for his side to make sure that the Biancocelesti picked up a point against Atletico Madrid at the Stadio Olimpico.
Pablo Barrios’ first goal had handed Atleti a lead even though his shot took a huge deflection off Daichi Kamada and then beat Provedel. Lazio were much better in the second half, with Luis Alberto impressing in transition and constantly posing danger in carrying the ball forward.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Lazio earned a corner and while it was cleared, Provedel made a brilliant back-post run to head in a cross from close range and seal a point for Lazio with the last kick of the game.
Lazio have won just once in the whole season but the Provedel goal sparked euphoric celebrations inside the Olimpico. It remains to be seen if they can now kickstart the season but it can certainly provide Maurizio Sarri’s side with some momentum.
