After rumors about his appointment began to surface on Saturday, Dimitrios Grammozis was officially confirmed as the successor to Dirk Schuster at 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday. The former SV Darmstadt 98 and FC Schalke 04 trainer will be returning to his professional roots. The 45-year-old spent laced up his for the Pfälzer Red Devils during the longest stint of his playing career between 2000 and 2005.

The club noted that Grammozis would immediately lead the squad’s training session on Sunday. An official introduction will come at the official pre-match presser preceding Tuesday’s DFB cup tie against 1. FC Nürnberg. Grammozis actually already followed in Schuster’s professional footsteps once, taking over Darmstadt during the second half of the 2018/19 season after Schuster was ousted at “Die Lilien”.
