Lars Stindl’s future at Borussia Mönchengladbach still unknown

Lars Stindl’s future at Borussia Mönchengladbach is still unknown as talks between the two will begin again after the winter transfer window Bild.

The 34-year-old’s contract expires in the summer but he is still proving to be important to the team. Stindl himself has been quiet about his contract extension while sporting director Roland Virkus said: “Lars Stindl is always good for us! He is extremely important for the team, of course we are in close contact with him.”

Daniel Farke also expressed how important Stindl is to the team: “I don’t want to talk too much about the future, but I’ve already emphasized that Lars is brutally important on the pitch and in the cabin. Lars is in his mid-30s and not 28 anymore. He just can’t play every second anymore.”

One of the rumours surrounding Stindl is whether he will return to Karlsruhe which is where he came through the youth ranks and made his professional football debut in 2007. The 34-year-old played with Karlsruhe’s current coach Christian Eichner. When asked about Stindl’s potential return, Karlsruhe’s sporting director Oliver Kreuzer said: “If it’s the case that he’s really drawn back home in the summer and he still wants to play football, we’ll definitely deal with the topic. Then we will also seek contact with him on our own initiative.”

Stindl joined Gladbach in 2015 from Hannover and has gone on to make 255 appearances for Gladbach. The captain has started the new year in good form scoring twice against Bayer Leverkusen before scoring and assisting in Gladbach’s 4-1 win against Hoffenheim.
