Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, Lionel Messi and the impending dissolution of PSG’s “MNM”

It is almost certain that Paris Saint-Germain’s “MNM,” consisting of Kylian Mbappé (24), Lionel Messi (35) and Neymar (31) have already played their last together. All are linked with moves away from PSG, but some moves look more imminent than others.

Mbappé is the latest member of the “MNM” to be linked with a departure from the Parc des Princes. L’Équipe reported on Tuesday that the France captain was unlikely to trigger the extension clause in his contract, which would see him remain with Les Parisiens until 2025.

As a result, Mbappé could leave on a free at the end of next season. Despite rejecting Real Madrid last summer, the AS Monaco academy product is still a target for the reigning European champions. However, a move this summer is highly unlikely.

Neymar and Messi both look set to depart at the end of the current season, however. Despite apologising for his unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia and despite his re-integration into the first-team set-up, Messi is still expected to depart on a free this summer.

Multiple media, including L’Équipe and Le Parisien have reported that PSG won’t be offering Messi an extension to the deal that is set to expire. A move to Saudi Arabia has been touted for the Argentine World Champion, as has a return to Barcelona, although a move back to Spain would be financially difficult for the Catalan club.

Neymar is also expected to leave at the end of the season. L’Équipe have revealed that PSG were in advanced talks with Manchester United over a move for the Brazilian international, who joined for a world record €222m fee six years ago. Despite possessing a contract that runs until 2027, and despite an initial willingness to see out that contract, Neymar would now be open to a departure, especially after PSG fans protested outside his house.

Neymar has been injured since 19th February, and he won’t be fit to return before the end of the season. We will therefore almost certainly never see the “MNM” align for PSG again.
