Real Madrid are the winners of the 2024 UEFA Super Cup, following a 2-0 victory over reigning Europa League champions Atalanta in Warsaw.
The opening 45 minutes was bereft of action. Both teams did hit the woodwork – Real Madrid through Rodrygo Goes, Atalanta following a deflection off Eder Militao – but aside from those moments, there was very little to write home about.
After the half time interval, Real Madrid started to take more control. They got their reward on the hour mark, with the opening goal coming from Federico Valverde. Vinicius Junior did brilliantly to drive to the by-line before cutting the ball back to Valverde, who could not miss from a yard out.
10 minutes later, Kylian Mbappe got his moment on his Real Madrid. After being played in by Jude Bellingham, the Frenchman made no mistake from inside the penalty area to make it 2-0.
That’s how it stayed until full time, meaning that Real Madrid collect their six UEFA Super Cup title. Carlo Ancelotti and his players will hope that it is the first trophy of many for them this season.
