Karim Benzema Responds to Didier Deschamps’ World Cup Claim: “The audacity.”

Just when you thought the Didier Deschamps – Karim Benzema saga was over, the endless show that keeps on giving returns to the big screen. In an interview with Le Parisien, the World Cup-winning manager gave his version of the facts regarding Benzema’s withdrawal from the World Cup in Qatar.

The French coach stated, “Karim was hurt because this World Cup meant a lot to him… ‘He said to me, It’s over.’ Our doctor’s diagnosis matched the one we gave him in Madrid. At best, his return to training could not intervene before December 10… When I left him, I told him: ‘Karim, there is no urgency. You organize your return with the team manager.’ When I woke up, I learned that he was gone. It was his decision, he won’t tell you otherwise, I understand and respect it.”

It did not take long for the Ballon d’Or winner to respond. In what can only be described as football comedy the 35-year-old striker posted on Instagram in two separate posts: “The audacity” finished with a clown emoji and  “That Didier. Goodnight.”

It is evident that this message contradicts his former coach’s account of it being the striker’s choice to not return to Les Bleus. This “last act” only further fuels the rumor that Benzema was fit to return before the end of the World Cup. Yet, with Benzema’s retirement from Les Bleus, this marks an unfortunate end to what could have been between the coach and player. Nevertheless, both the of them have much to be proud of, as they both had fine careers and have achieved so much for their national team.
