Karel Geraerts opts to join Reims

Karel Geraerts has chosen to take the job at Stade de Reims, according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri.

Samba Diawara’s departure from the role is yet to be confirmed, however, following Reims’ relegation to Ligue 2, via the relegation play-offs, L’Équipe understands that he will not continue in the role. Les Stadistes, it seems, are already in the market for Diawara’s replacement, and Geraerts emerged as the outstanding candidate.

His move to Reims, however, was no means a given. As reported by Tavolieri, CSKA Moscow made a concrete and lucrative proposal to acquire his services, whilst there was also a long-standing interest from Belgian side Standard Liège.

The Belgian, however, will ultimately take charge at Reims, having opted to join the French club ahead of alternative options at his disposal. Personal terms were agreed upon in recent hours, and he should be officially appointed as Reims’ new manager at the start of next week.
