According to Bild, Schalke have been in talks with Belgian coach Karel Geraerts over their vacant managerial role and it is likely he will replace Thomas Reis.
The former Union Saint-Gilloise coach has been in talks with Schalke’s sporting directors Peter Knäbel and André Hechelmann. It is reported that talks have gone well between the two parties and a deal is very advanced meaning it is likely that Geraerts will take over during the international break ahead of Schalke’s game against Karlsruhe.
Geraerts has been without a club since leaving USG at the end of last season. During his time at the club, Geraerts has been assistant manager as well as manager as the Brussels’ side punched above their weight immediately after promotion finishing in the top four two seasons in a row.
In his sole season as manager, USG went into the final day top of the table only to dramatically lose the title to Royal Antwerp.
