As reported by L’Équipe, Bruno Genesio is expected to leave his post at Stade Rennais in the coming days. He will be replaced by former RC Strasbourg Alsace manager Julien Stéphan, who according to Le Parisien, will sign an eight-month contract with the club.
Rennes set themselves the objective of achieving European football this season, however, with just two wins in their opening 12 Ligue 1 games, Genesio’s side languish in 13th and are just one point above the relegation play-off place. Despite these results, Genesio had looked like remaining at the club, but as revealed by sources contacted by Get French Football News, the former Olympique Lyonnais manager could not envision continuing in his role.
Genesio’s departure is expected to be officialised on Monday. He will then be replaced by the man that he succeeded back in 2021, Stéphan, who has since managed at Strasbourg. He will sign an eight-month contract, which will allow him to see out the current season with Rennes. Stéphan was contacted by the club’s owner, François Pinault, and he will oversee the team’s return to training on Monday.
