Joselu, whose contract renewal will cost only €1.5 Million, according to Diario AS, secured Real Madrid’s safe passage to the Champions League final and put his tally at 17 goals this season. Against Bayern Munich, he plugged the leaks in Carlo Ancelotti’s plan.
Real Madrid shape their destiny in the Champions League in ways others don’t comprehend. Throughout the semi-final match this week, Madrid struggled without their typical number nine, a void Ancelotti expertly navigated all season to extract 30 goals, those that Karim Benzema took with him to Saudi Arabia, seemingly out of thin air.
Carlo can undoubtedly speak of success given Madrid’s season: they’ve lost only two matches, clinched the league several matches early, secured the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, and have a date with destiny at Wembley on June 1st to add another Champions League trophy to their collection.
Real Madrid dominated Wednesday’s match in two phases, through Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde on the right in the first half and Vinicius more prominently in the second, causing trouble for Joshua Kimmich, who stated in an interview with AS that he enjoyed every minute in that position. After Wednesday night, that statement could be questionable.
However, all that effort didn’t pay off until Joselu entered the fray. With him on the pitch, Real Madrid had four shots, three on target, and two goals in just three minutes. He now has a total of 17 goals this season, and will cost Madrid only €1.5 Million to carry such form into next season.
Though there’s no official announcement yet, but the decision is made, with Ancelotti’s approval: “Joselu is a fantastic reflection of this team. He hasn’t had many minutes this season, but he has contributed a lot.”
