According to Téléfoot, Olympique de Marseille’s Jonathan Clauss (31) rejected a late approach to join Villarreal on transfer deadline day.
As deadline day neared, Clauss’ commitment to Marseille came into question. As a result, OM seemed willing to part ways with the former RC Lens full-back, who they believed was more focused on making France’s EURO 2024 squad, than on performing for his club.
According to L’Équipe, Les Phocéens offered Clauss to West Ham United and Galatasaray through intermediaries, but to no avail. However, Téléfoot now reveals that the Frenchman, who featured against Olympique Lyonnais in Sunday’s Choc des Olympiques, was the subject of a surprise approach from Villarreal.
The La Liga side are currently managed by Marcelino, who began the season at the Vélodrome, before being forced out of OM following insults, threats and slander from the club’s fans. Villarreal’s late attempts to sign Clauss were in vain, with the player himself intent on staying at Marseille.
