Jermaine Pennant Hospitalised After ‘Scary’ Attack as Horror Injury Images Emerge

Former Liverpool forward Jermaine Pennant was taken to hospital and needed more than 50 stitches after being attacked by two dogs this weekend, with gruesome images of his leg subsequently emerging.

The retired Premier League star, who also played for the likes of Arsenal and Stoke City, was saved by his own dog, who leapt to his defence when the attack unfolded.

Now, Pennant, 43, has provided an update on his condition, as well as a scary account of what happened during his dog walk in north London, from his hospital bed.

Pennant had been walking American Akita King when his dog was confronted by a German Shepherd. Reflecting on what happened, he told The Sun (see images of his wounds below): “It was really scary. The other dog had a go at King, so I stepped in to protect him.

“The next thing I know, it was attacking me. I was on the floor and it was on my leg for at least five seconds. I felt this huge pressure. Imagine the force of a dog bite. King jumped in to protect me.

“The two dogs were really going at it, and then King stood by my side until help arrived. He saved my life. If King had been a smaller dog, there would have been no chance.”

Pennant said both dogs were off the lead, but refused to report the incident to the police. His girlfriend, Mimmi Montgomery, got him an Uber to A&E where he was treated for four bite wounds on his right leg. He spent Friday night in hospital and has been told he might need plastic surgery on one large wound.

He Also Provided an Update on King

Taking to Instagram after having now been discharged from hospital, Pennant provided a positive update on his dog, King. He wrote (see the full post below): So I was attacked by a German shepherd, I tried to protect King but the dog got my leg. I was on the floor with the dog still attached with no sign of letting go, until King intervened as he didn’t know what was going on.

“But the minute he did, he fought the dog off and saved what could’ve been a horrendous situation for me. King was unhurt with a little nip on his leg, but had blood covered all over him which wasn’t mine. At that this point, I forgot the agony I was in, and my heart sank, but it wasn’t King’s.”

He continued: “My hero still protecting me and trying to look after me. KING, you’re a legend ,love you, man’s best friend, thanks @mimmimontgomery for taking care of us both.”
