Jamal Musiala suffers another setback

Jamal Musiala has withdrawn from the Germany squad and will not travel as planned for their friendly games against Japan and France. Bayern Munich state that Musiala withdrew because of a back complaint.

Musiala was due to arrive in Wolfsburg on Wednesday evening, and then Thursday, but the 20-year-old will now remain in Munich. This comes after he returned to individual training earlier in the week after sustaining a hamstring injury during training at the end of August.

Hansi Flick nominated Musiala for the Germany squad with Kicker reporting back on August 23 that it’s possible that the player could play against Japan and France, but Musiala’s latest setback means that he will now miss out.

Musiala, alongside Xavi Simons, has been nominated for the Kopa Trophy. Musiala was a key player for Bayern Munich last season as they went on to win the Bundesliga. Without the 20-year-old, it could of been a completely different story as his late winner against FC Köln on the final day of the season secured Bayern their 11th Bundesliga in a row
