Jake Paul appears set to swap one humiliation for another, as Anthony Joshua is now reportedly in deep discussions with the former creator for a boxing fight in December.
Paul and the company he co-founded, Most Valuable Promotions, were left scrambling for new opponents after canceling the Gervonta Davis exhibition after news broke regarding Tank’s legal issues. They nixed the entire event set for the 14th of November at the Kaseya Center in Miami, and began approaching other fighters.
However, there was just one problem: they all kept saying no. It was new territory for Paul to find himself in, as, for years, boxers — both big name and small, active and retired — appeared happy to call Paul out for a fight. But, these days, athletes like the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who is 0-2 in boxing, intimated that it was “disrespectful” to be even be linked with the American.
It had led Paul to reignite talks with AJ, who he had been linked with earlier in the year. Now, they appear set to finally collide, bringing an end to a period in which Joshua has spent time on the sidelines following his brutal knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in 2023. According to Ring Magazine, Paul is likely to be Joshua’s comeback opponent.
Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul Reportedly in Play For December
“Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul are finalizing a deal for a heavyweight fight on Netflix in December in Miami,” according to a social media post from Ring Magazine on the 12th of November. “Paul steps up to fight the former heavyweight champion after his exhibition with Gervonta Davis was canceled.”
Though it gives Paul something he’s never had — a credible opponent — as Joshua would be widely favored to defeat him in devastating fashion, it only means he swaps one humiliation for another. The 28-year-old, who has beaten Mike Perry and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., will go from being unable to lure fighters like Ngannou among others to the ring, to settling on Joshua, who could eviscerate him swiftly much like the British slugger did to Ngannou, as he sent the ex-UFC champ back to the sport of mixed martial arts because of a two-round annihilation.
Regardless, Paul should at least be credited with taking on a 250-pound, 6-foot-5 fighter after previously looking to swap slugs with a 135-pounder in Tank, who was at least a foot shorter.
Other fighters Paul had been linked to included Ryan Garcia, who appears set to challenge Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight championship title instead, Alex Pereira, who is contracted to the UFC, and KSI, who has seemingly been ousted from Misfits Boxing by none other than Andrew Tate.
