Eintracht Frankfurt were on a six-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga before they visited Leipzig. However, their 6-0 defeat has now raised doubts over Dino Toppmöller’s future at the club.
“The margin of victory for Leipzig is deserved because of a dismal second performance from us,” said Toppmöller in his post-match interview. “We lacked sharpness in the duels, and it was far too easy for Leipzig.
“Overall, it was a very, very poor performance, for which we apologise to our travelling fans, who once again gave us tremendous support.”
Frankfurt’s board member Markus Krösche also spoke to the media following the defeat. “It was a poor performance, especially defensively. We can’t be making such mistakes. Every individual needs to win their duels. It’s nothing to do with mentality or attitude.”
Toppmöller’s troops will face another tricky fixture on Tuesday against Barcelona in Camp Nou’s first Champions League night since 2022. They will close the year with Bundesliga duels against Augsburg and Hamburg.
