Back in October, Bayern Munich were considering re-signing Jerome Boateng to help bolster their fragile defense.

The Bavarians received a lot of criticism for showing interest in the central defender due to his ongoing domestic violence case, and they ultimately decided against signing him.

Speaking to Bild am Sonntag, Boateng has now claimed that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel would have been happy to sign him despite the criticism.

“If Thomas Tuchel had decided alone, I would be wearing the Bayern jersey today,” Boateng said, adding:

“He was the driving force behind my involvement in Munich and the opportunity to keep fit there. I can only thank him.

“Then I was told that the squad was good enough. At least that’s what I was told,” Boateng added, hinting that Bayern didn’t turn him down for sporting reasons.

Boateng ultimately ended up joining Italian side Salernitana at the beginning of February.
