Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer praised his team’s determination following their hard-fought 3–1 victory against St. Pauli, highlighting the challenges of breaking down a deep-lying defensive setup:
“I think today was a win of belief,” Neuer said. “We kept going after we went behind, we got unlucky hitting the woodwork three times. We faced an opponent that defended deep with a back five, so it wasn’t easy to break them down. In the end, the two goals in stoppage time were a relief. I think it was a deserved win.”
The late goals not only secured the three points but also offered a boost to the squad’s morale as Bayern continue to navigate a congested schedule. Neuer’s comments underline his focus on the team’s collective effort and mentality in tight situations.
On a personal note, Neuer addressed questions about a possible new contract with Bayern Munich. “The crucial factor will be how I feel. We’ll see in the second half of the season. I’ll think about it more towards March during the international break,” he said, indicating that any decision will come with careful consideration later in the campaign.
Neuer’s reflections emphasize both his commitment to Bayern in the present and a measured approach to his future with the club, balancing performance, fitness, and long-term planning.
