Following a woeful start to the new calendar year which saw Berlin’s “alte Dame” forced to contend with the death of President Kay Bernstein and suffer elimination from the DFB Pokal at home in the Olympiastadion a short few weeks later, there is finally some good news to report in Charlottenburg. Attacker Fabian Reese – amid rumors that the 26-year-old wished to make the jump to the Bundesliga – has decided to extend with Hertha BSC after all.

Reese arrived at Hertha on a free this past summer, first committing to the club when it appeared he might have a chance at playing in the top flight. The former Schalke, Fürth, and Kiel player had remained non omitted about his future in recent weeks, dropping hints that he was preparing to leave if Hertha weren’t promoted. Reese put such rumors to rest on Thursday with a new deal that sees him extend through 2028.

“I believe in our dream,” Reese told the Hertha supporters in a video released by the club, “I feel incredibly at home at Hertha and with its fans. I want to sedan example by extending my contract and wish to get this club back where it belongs in the Bundesliga.”

Reese has scored ten goals and contributed a further 14 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions for the capital city side this year. He’s doubled his estimated market worth to a career high of some €4 million in the current campaign, making him one of the ten most valuable professionals in the German second division.
