Former SC Paderborn 07 and 1. FC Köln head-coach Steffen Baumgart has been sacked by 2. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV. The 52-year-old – hired by the proud Hanseatic city-state side known as “der Dino” – couldn’t help HSV achieve promotion last year. This season, the team is in seventh place in the 2. Bundesliga table after accruing 20 points through 13 match-days.
Baumgart’s side blew a 2-0 halftime lead against FC Schalke 04 in last night’s Saturday evening second division “Top-Spiel”. Ostensibly, Baumgart will be linked with top flight coaching jobs before the season is out. The Rostock native coached 34 Bundesliga matches with Paderborn during their 2019/20 season in the top division. He also stood on the sidelines 98 times during his two-and-a-half year stint in the cathedral city.
