Hamann defends Terzic, hits out at Dortmund players and club bosses

Dietmar Hamann has hit out at Borussia Dortmund’s players and club directors, saying he believes head coach Edin Terzic is being blamed too much for the club’s recent struggles.

German football pundit Dietmar Hamann has defended Edin Terzic against the criticism he has received recently.

According to the former Liverpool star, the Borussia Dortmund coach has been let down by both the players and the club’s directors.

“I think the coach is a poor fellow at the moment because he has been let down too often by the players,” Hamann told Sky after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Mainz, which extended Dortmund’s winless run to six games.

Instead, the 50-year-old criticized BVB directors Hans-Joachim Watzke and Sebastian Kehl. The club CEO and sporting director should hold the stars more accountable for the poor results, he said.

“They have let the coach down. The coach has always been the lone voice and they have always left him alone,” said Hamann.

“You have to tell the players that they are earning good money and playing in front of 80,000 people every week. The players also have a responsibility, and in the last eight weeks they have not lived up to it,” he added.

Dortmund is fifth in the Bundesliga table.
