As announced via Bild, Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has suffered a muscular injury while on international duty. Therefore, while the severity of the injury is unclear, the 25-year-old will not take part in either of Switzerland’s games against Kosovo or Romania.
However, it is understood that Kobel will remain with the national team until Sunday before travelling back to Dortmund. This could come as a huge blow for Die Schwarzgelben, as the Swiss shot-stopper has become the club’s most important player this season, alongside the influential Julian Brandt.
Despite Dortmund stumbling in the Bundesliga, they have appeared to show far more quality in the Champions League, as they currently sit at the top of Group F. Therefore, the BvB faithful will be hoping that Kobel’s injury will not sideline him for a significant period of time as they look to qualify for the knockout stages in pole position.
Nevertheless, it is not a grave concern for the Switzerland national team, as former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer is still considered the country’s number one. Kobel was on the bench for their recent 1-1 draw against Israel on Wednesday.
