Arsenal, Newcastle and Aston Villa are among the clubs believed to be showing an interest in Sporting Lisbon right wing-back Geny Catamo.

Sources with close ties to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that Catamo has a host of admirers in the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe this summer.

The Mozambique international has impressed during his time in Portugal, and his progress has been closely monitored by Arsenal, Newcastle, Villa, Everton, Fulham, and Wolves.

Atletico Madrid, Nice, Udinese and Genoa have also been mentioned by sources, but with emphasis that interest remains at an early stage.

These clubs have scouted Catamo recently, but no contacts or offers have taken place yet.

Geny Catamo transfer won’t come cheap

CaughtOffside have also been told that Sporting don’t want to sell Catamo, who is protected by a €60m release clause.

However, one source told us that there is the expectation that some teams are “planning to make an opening offer of €25–30 million” to test the water.

Catamo will likely cost more than that, but it will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old reacts to this interest in him by pushing to be allowed to leave his current club.

Geny Catamo could be a fine signing for Premier League clubs

A versatile talent with an eye for goal, Catamo finished 2024/25 with nine goals and two assists in all competitions for club and country.

Although primarily a right wing-back, Catamo has also played as a left wing-back, and even in a central midfield role.

It’s easy to imagine Catamo being a useful squad player for someone like Arsenal, even if they don’t urgently need new signings in that area of their squad.

Newcastle, though, could surely do well to bring Catamo in as a long-term successor to the ageing Kieran Trippier.
